November 5-7, 2013
We decided after much fasting and prayer, that we should move to Utah for Zach to study and take the Utah Bar. He's always wanted to help family out with his law degree. So we decided since he'd just taken it months earlier it was probably a good time to go while it's still fresh.
His job wasn't what he thought it would be. They had pushed him toward more family law than he thought he'd be doing. He was hoping to do Bankruptcy, Immigration, and Construction Law. That wasn't really happening. They were wanting us to build the practice with advertising, but we didn't want to do that because it's not where we wanted to live. We were supposed to move out to Kansas City area and work at the office out there...but that didn't seem to be anytime in the near future. We love Topeka, the people are amazing. But that's not really where we want to raise our family. We thought Kansas City would be better. Bigger city, more members of the church for dating options and good friends. We love the diversity of not having everyone be members of the church like it is in Utah. But at the same time I think it would be hard not to have friends with the same standards. Kids drinking and smoking, drugs...(But I guess you get that anywhere too). We know kids in the ward who's family is about the only member in the school.
It was a hard decision. We didn't like where we lived. With the smoker lady next door that seeped through the walls and outlets. AND, with the non stop traffic of the drug dealer next door on the other side. Zachs truck had someone trying to break into it days before we decided...Ya, Topeka's crime just isn't the place for us. It is pretty bad there. Those types of things also influenced us. Topeka wasn't our favorite city. Loved it! We really really did! So many great memories! But don't want to live there forever.
The ward was AMAZING! We were kept very busy with callings. It was tough, but we loved it too. It made us feel so important and needed. We got to work with some amazing people we will never forget, and hope to continue our friendships forever.
So, hard decision. But that's what we felt we should do.
We left, and headed to Utah where we lived and currently still are (1 yr later) living with Zach's parents. They are so kind to let us live with them. They sacrifice so much having us here. We pray for them to be blessed every day. They put up with a ton with us and our crazy shenanigan boys. They are SO SO kind!!
We had such a crowd of people to help us move. Mainly people in the ward and my boss and his son. Such kind kind people! We had a TON of stuff. They miraculously packed everything in the largest moving truck they have. It was so tricky, but they did it!
People in the ward helped me pack while I had my kidney biopsy and couldn't lift anything. We had dinner brought to us by Sunny Budge. So so nice! She offered to watch the kids too! My mom was the biggest help. She cleaned and scrubbed and cleaned some more. She didn't have any idea how hard we'd put her to work. Poor mom! Up till the wee hours of the mornin'! Sorry momma!
But we made it! Oh yes, and we had to stop off at the Russell Stover outlet factory for some delicious chocolates. THE BEST! We had a great trip home with a load of chocolate! Colt was amazing! Wyatt drove with Zach most of the time in the huge moving truck. He liked that. It was a great, LONG trip back home.
Anyway, here's pictures from the move. My mom took them all. It was just to crazy for me to think about taking pictures I guess. ;)
Next stop...
We made it safe and sound to Utah. Ready for a new chapter in our lives.
